"Join us for an evening of magic, whimsy, and adventure as Clara journeys to the land of sweets in the classic story of THE NUTCRACKER.”
A classical ballet in two acts, The Nutcracker premiered in 1892 at St. Petersburg’s Imperial Mariinsky Theatre. It was based on the 1816 novella by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa. During the late 1960s, it was featured prominently across North American dance productions, becoming a holiday tradition that still stands to this day.
In two hours of winter wonders, The Nutcracker follows the brave young Clara as she sets off on a midnight magic adventure beneath the Christmas tree. Alongside her Nutcracker Prince, she must face the sinister Mouse King in a thrilling battle between toy soldiers and mice! See them enter the forested Land of Snow, prancing in a flurry of snowflakes as they cross into the Land of Sweets. And at their journey’s end, festivities and dancing celebrations with the Sugar Plum Fairy and her colorful company!
Florida Dance Arts has yet to announce the complete cast for this year’s The Nutcracker. However, two guest dancers have recently been revealed! Give a round of applause to Taryn Pachciarz as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Craig Wasserman as the Cavalier! The team would also like to thank the Highland School of Dance, Tina Sargeant, SouthState Bank, TEAMWORKnet, and the Lakeland Mayor's Council on the Arts for sponsoring the event.
